General Info

If you’re craving bold flavors and authentic street-style bites, La Torta Loca at 3419 International Blvd, Oakland, CA is the kind of Mexican restaurant that instantly feels like a local favorite. From the moment you walk in, the aroma alone tells you you’re in for something comforting, hearty, and deeply satisfying.

One of the first things that stood out to me was how inviting the menu felt. It’s not overly complicated, yet every item sounds like it’s worth trying. I started with a Pambazo, and honestly, it set the tone for the whole experience. The bread was perfectly soaked and packed with flavor, while the filling had that rich, slightly spicy kick that keeps you going back for another bite.

Then came the Milanesa Torta, which was easily one of the highlights. Crispy, tender, and generously layered, it felt like comfort food done right. If you’re more into grilled meats, the Asada Torta delivers that smoky, juicy taste that’s hard to beat. Each bite felt balanced-nothing overwhelming, just really well-executed food.

Of course, I couldn’t skip the tacos. The Carnitas and Pastor Tacos were packed with flavor, and the Tacos De Carne Asada had that classic, slightly charred finish that makes them unforgettable. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous without feeling excessive.

What I appreciated just as much as the food was the overall setup. The restaurant is welcoming and practical, with a wheelchair accessible entrance, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. It’s also great that they serve breakfast, which adds flexibility if you’re stopping by early. For those planning ahead, the fact that they accept reservations is a plus, especially during busy hours.

The vibe leans casual, but in a good way. It’s the kind of place where you can sit down, relax, and really enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. Whether you’re dining solo or with friends, it fits different moods easily. Plus, they accept debit cards, so there’s no hassle when it comes to payment.

After spending some time here, it’s clear why La Torta Loca gets such positive reviews from locals. It’s not just about the food-it’s the consistency, the comfort, and that feeling of discovering a spot you’ll want to return to. The combination of a solid menu, convenient location, and genuinely satisfying dishes makes it stand out in Oakland’s vibrant dining scene.

What customers say?

“ One of the most beautiful sandwiches I’ve ever seen in my life! I came here a week ago, tried the huaraches chicharron, couldn’t get it out of my mind. Came back this week, and ordered the famous torta loca cubana—and I was not disappointed. I doubt anything on the menu would disappoint. The atmosphere is very charming, order at the window, and the person who took my order both times was extremely friendly (disclaimer: I do not speak Spanish) & she took special care to explain the dishes to me and my mother. The dishes are inexpensive, and worth every penny (so leave a good tip). The location is easy to get to by BART and the T1 bus, and there is parking on side streets, and near the BART station. ”

“ The Huaraches and salsas are delicious. I hate the napkins you need 100 of them to clean your mouth without getting it all over your fingers. The place does look like it can use some deep cleaning and remodeling to be more aesthetically pleasing. The ladies cooking & charging are nice, but firm. Good service overall ”

“ great spot, the two women that work here I talked to were so nice and accommodating ”

- Alori -

“ There is no parking available and is hard to find parking in the Main Street. If you find parking you got to try the huarache de chicarron is finger delicious good. ”

“ Been #1 fan of this spot since 20 years ago. My fav torta spot from the world. & i travel alot. But this place might look small & not great looking but the food 100000/10. Must try place ”

- Janet Hernandez -

“ One of the best tacos I had in America because Tijuanas El Gordo and many others in Baja still take it. But this place was hand made tortillas, plenty of meat, and toppings sitting outside and inside is shared with a laundromat. But great tacos and tortas and much more Mexican food. ”

- Traveling Kupo -

“ Best Torta in all of the bay. Fresh, flavorful and juicy. The bread alone is worth the trip. ”
